Strengthening Communication Between School and Home
Education starts at home. The best learning environment exists when parents and teachers understand and support each other. EnTeam events for parents, students, and teachers help build the communication, cooperation, and teamwork that supports the learning process beyond the classroom.

Key Benefits
EnTeam events give teachers and parents enjoyable and efficient ways to increase their collaboration. EnTeam activities help adults and children learn to win together.

High School Parent Involvement
Cahokia High School in Cahokia, Illinois engages relatives of students and other members of the community in EnTeam programs because students need support and reinforcement in the win-win model.Students, parents, and other relatives participate in the professional development with teachers of students in selected situations because it helps to create positive relationships in a low-risk setting. The result is more communication, cooperation, and teamwork between home and school.
Attracting parents to school events at an inner city high school is a challenge, and some of the ways that schools succeed in increasing parental involvement are:
• Hold school events at an alternative site such as a convenient church or community center
• Combine student performance of some kind – music, sports, drama, or art – with the meeting
• Provide food
• Make personal invitations
• Recruit parents who are involved to invite other parents
• Recruit community leaders – especially religious leaders – to encourage parents to attend
• Let parents know that their input is genuinely needed – if that is true
• Make the welcome effective the first time parents come so they spread the word that the teachers and administrators are sincerely interested in having parents attend future events.

The agenda for EnTeam activities with parents is different from the agenda for students because parents need to find a sense of purpose and place. Students often prefer to meet separately from parents and are more interested in getting involved in the activities as soon as they arrive. The agenda for parents must allow more time for visiting with other adults. After the socializing is complete, the parents are ready to participate in activities.
